John Raven

It is with great sadness that we report the death of John Raven who served this benefice so well for a great many years as a Reader. John fought a long battle with cancer, going through several rounds of surgery and gaining remission with each until this last time. Our love and prayers go out to support his wife Barbara and his family, may they know God's comfort, strength and peace at this time. John ministered among us here in this benefice for a good number of years, sharing God's love with us and engendering love among us in response, as well as encouraging us in our faith. We are grateful to him for his faithfulness in love and service. Many of you will know him not only from his leading of our worship and preaching but also in his support of various social and fund-raising events, in which he was generous with his time and support. After a private cremation, a service of thanksgiving for his life took place on Wednesday 18th March at St James the Greater . In due course there will be a further short service of thanksgiving at Shearsby Church when his ashes are interred there, date yet to be advised, to which any who would like to are welcome to come. We give thanks to God for John, for his ministry among us, his gentle presence and his loving service. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.
