Arson at Husbands Bosworth
Incident number: Inc 17 of 30 August
Police are investigating three reports of arson in Husbands Bosworth – and believe that the incidents are linked.
The first report, which relates to a waste bin being set on fire outside premises in Bell Lane, was made shortly after 11pm yesterday (Wednesday).
A further report was then made stating that two vehicles and a number of wheelie bins had been set alight in Mowsley Road either late last night or in the early hours of this morning (Thursday). The blaze also affected a nearby property, but no-one was injured.
A short time later it was then reported that a van had been set alight in Church Street.
Detective Constable Chantel Booth, the investigating officer, said: "We believe that these incidents are linked to one another and our enquiries are continuing.
"I'm particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in either Bell Lane, Mowsley Road or Church Street either last night or in the early hours of this morning and who saw or heard anyone acting in a suspicious manner.
"Whether you saw something yourself, or you have CCTV or dashcam footage that has picked anything up, I'd like to speak to you."
A 35-year-old man from Gloucestershire has today (Thursday) been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. He remains in custody.
Anyone with information should call DC 4637 Booth on 101, quoting incident 17 of 30 August.

Courier Fraud
A Fraud MO is being conducted against elderly vulnerable people involving a male caller, described by various victims as having an Indian or foreign accent, contacting the vulnerable person knowing their name, address and bank in order to try to get them to withdraw money from the bank.
Offences have continued across the force with a potential further 14 incidents being called into the Police over the last few weeks. This is likely to be higher in number due to some incidents being reported directly to Action Fraud and others being unreported.
A couple of variations to the method have been observed, these being the victim being persuaded to transfer their money into the suspects bank account and also where the scam initially began as a BT/Talk Talk representative rather then from the Police/bank.
This is to ensure that people are aware of the scam and that they a) don't become a victim and b)They report the offence to the police.
The police can be contacted on 101 at any time or 999 if prompt attendance is required to catch suspects in the act of committing a crime, or have just committed the crime and are in the vicinity.
Church burglaries - Message from Inspector Gavin Drummond
Dear Parish Chairs and Clerks,
Over the past few days we have seen an increase in rural churches being targeted whereby their lead roofs have been stripped and stolen.
Specifically, we have seen offences across areas such as Ashby Magna, Theddingworth, Arnesby and Peatling Parva.
I am well aware that other Churches have also been targeted in the past.
We are focusing efforts in order to try and identify those that are committing these offences but we need your help in doing so.
Please can I ask that you share this message with your local communities.
We need to ask our local communities to be vigilant towards suspicious behaviour in and around Churches.
We know that those wishing to steal the church metal will often have one of more vehicles with them as a way of transporting it away from the scene.
If you see persons or vehicles activing suspiciously please call 101 and report it to the Police so that we can record and act on the information.
We are particularly interested in:
- Makes and models of vehicles
- Vehicle registration numbers
- Numbers of people
- Physical descriptions of those people acting suspiciously
- Any noticeable accents from those acting suspiciously.
- Direction of travel
If you witness the lead being stolen, then you must ring 999 so that we can respond as quickly as possible.
Please be our eyes and ears in your community so that we can bring this atrocious crime to a stop.
Should you wish to speak to your local officers about this, then you can find their details here:
https://leics.police.uk/local-policing
For more information on preventing church metal theft, please see here:

Thank you for your help
Regards
Inspector Gavin Drummond
Red Telephone Kiosks
Thieves looking very official are touring this area trying to steal red telephone kiosks. If you have one, please try to monitor it and get close neighbours involved. They should call police 999 if anyone is 'working' on it. The vans that have been seen in this vicinity are white and the two numbers seen so far are:
PK 60 FVL on a small VW van with rear opaque windows – no tax or MOT - Seen parked up.
PK 60 YVN on a Ford transit – no MOT but taxed – seen with men at work.
The transit people wear high-vis and the rear of the van is painted with red and white stripes, like Highway maintenance vehicles. They work with a pneumatic drill and excavate it from its surroundings. They have asked a passer by 'if there were any more red hone boxes in the area' so are clearly bold and ambitious.
